Has anyone done this and it has worked out well
After a lot of digging I connected with an aunty on my mums side of the family and she has been teaching me different things about that side of my culture and mob and that has been a very not just confronting experience but also really interesting and fulfilling all at once
This part of my identity has been hidden for so long and a gap for me being only connected to culture through dad

Thats awesome, it must be a powerful day in your life to be able to meet a part of yourself where you have been searching for so long. I hope you have a way of saving those special memories to hold onto them a long time, and bring meaning into your life. To know family is a marvellous thing, to see parts of yourself in other people and I am happy for you that this has come about.
My only comment is to guard yourself in the early days of this situation because family or not, you barely know these new people and going a long way from home can be stressful and isolating at the best of times. If I was your RL friend I would want to know that you had a backup plan, an escape plan, and some support while going thru the journey because it's a huge big thing and, everyone wants it to go well but...what if it doesn't? The thing is if it goes well thats really good and rosy. It will be hard either way, and if it's a situation you just want to be able to get back home without too much impact on your ordinary life.
Cheering for you mate I hope your family reunion is a happy one.
